I'm using a torch with MAP gas. They're easy to come by. Just sucks. I would cry if the bottom was covered in it.

 

Finally got all the parts to install my new fan switch,hopefully this one works since the last one i bought was worthless haha.After installing this switch,i realized my car is becoming somewhat of a frankenstien project haha,a chevy car with a ford fan,and a bmw fan switch.

 

Here's the trunk drop all done and painted satin black:


Today I decided to close in the exposed body bolts on the lower rockers. Just too ugly to keep, and I wanted a little more finished look:


So I got the HF brake out and bent up some 3" wide pieces of 16ga. steel, then drilled holes to plug weld for more support. That's the pieces laying under the car in the first pic. Then I clamped them in place and did a bazillion tack welds:


After shaping the ends to meet the body I ground off the welds and got them smooth:


Then just a little filler to clean them up. Just some light sanding, a little more paint, and they'll look much better than the exposed body mounting bolts:

Finished off the sanding, priming and painting. Made a nice improvement over the ugly open sides:



Then I got the torch and welder out and bent up these nifty little nerf bars to sorta close in the bumper holes and have something neat to look at. They wont stop anything, but I like them. Welded them up and bent the brackets to mount to the front end pivot plates, so they would pivot with the sheetmetal when I open the frontend. ust painted them with Hammerite dark silver for now. Might actually spring to have them chromed later:


And here's a picture of my buddy's new ride he brought by on the way home last night. A pretty rust free, original 1952 Austin A40 truck. Bought it for $1550; what a steal! Little bigger than my '46, but the insides will be way tighter with nowhere to move back when he sets the firewall back!

That metal is probably almost a 1/4" thick! Looks like a fun find.

 

If you mean the outside, that's just minor surface rust. That will sand off easily and not affect anything.

 

i got some garage time in tonight, i'm hoping to have the entire front clip off before june but time is tough started to yank the left fender today it'sd down to one bolt the speed bolt broke and it on of the wheel well ones so i'll cut off tomorrow with the grinder just like i did one stubborn bottom bolt today. inner fenders are next then i'll have room to play with the grinder and get the bumper bolts out of the way.

PS any one know anything about black buety media for sand blasting a friend dropped by today who is restoring a ****** and asked about it.

 

I've heard good things about black beauty. Personally I use playground sand from Lowes.
