I thought so, That coating makes the gears turn over very ruff. It will throw a perfect pattern, but won't roll over smoothly. That causes the mechanic to open up the clearance, thus, causing it to not be set up properly causing noise. You have to ignore the ruff contact, get the pattern right, as soon as the oil hits the gears they'll roll over smoothly. I bet that's what happened.

Interesting. This isn't the way I would've liked to educate myself about rearend work, but any way I can get it I guess. I really do appreciate all the info about this stuff, I hate not knowing what I'm talking about with these guys. I'm absolutely stymied over this crap. When I finally spoke to the mechanic, he didn't come right out and say it but it was more than obvious that he realized something was not right after he drove it again....Probably knew the first time but it was easier to say "it'll make noise for a while." The comment was for me to bring the car back in "we need to re-shim it." This time I think I will stand there when the cover comes off. Just hoping there isn't any internal damage with all the driving that I've done as to break it in.

Appreciate it. I'm really hoping things aren't chewed up in there when they get the cover off. They could've kept the car the other day and this would all be over with!

I didn't get to bring the Camaro in on Friday, they were too busy I guess. I am now dealing with the owner directly and it should be going in later today or tomorrow "at the latest." Bill, the owner said he would do the work himself and make sure it's right. Still hoping and praying that things aren't destroyed back there. The battle goes on....

Guys who do it all the time make it look so easy, but even a good mechanic can have issues if he doesn't do it often. I sure hope it all works out in the end for you!

Good one '69. The puns for this whole deal could be endless...

The car is at the shop and the owner is "playin' with the shims trying to get it off the toe a little bit." Should have it back by tomorrow (I asked him to please take his time and make sure it's done like he would want his own.) Think I've earned a nice ride home by now. Hoping the next update will be the last of this craziness. Quite ready to get tearin' this Camaro down and start an actual project thread.
