What are you looking for? Strength or cruise. Cause 700r4's are great cruising trannies with over drive but i don't think their to good for really high horsepower. 4l60e is just a electronic 700r4. The best tranny is the GM 4L80 It is a turbo 400 with overdrive. They hold up to high horsepower and are great for just cruising to. They come out of heavyduty chevy trucks. Their nice trannies

Also have the powerglide. Im not a fan of them cause they only have two speeds. but they are the greatest racing tranny they hold up to alot of abuse and rob very little horsepower. great for racing

Best choice is a 700R4. Find a reputable rebuilder in your area, tell them what you are putting the trans into and get it built for the car. R4's can be made to withstand moderate horsepower, we run one behind a big block with 425 hp with no problems. You may need to modify your carb for the TV cable and your driveshaft will not work.

Oh god I've had HORRIBLE experiences with AAMCO. Broke down 600 miles from home, they "fixed" the transmission and it made it home only to fail right after we got there. The reasoning behind going with them in the first place was that they were a chain and if we had problems we could easily get it resolved in our hometown. Well it worked well for that reasoning but not for the actual thing being fixed. It took three attempts for them to try and fix it and on the third the guy who owned the shop just skipped town. We had to take it to another AAMCO outside of our city about an hour away twice before it finally worked.

Never heard any good reports about them. Find a smaller shop, they usually care about their workmanship.
