Default Transmission Questions

I have a 79, which should be aSaginaw 4 speed. In 1st it grinds a bit, in 2nd grinds and clunks bad, then 3rd and 4th are fine and just smooth as ever. From what I've read, I'm guessing its a bad synchronizer ring should I just have the synchronizer replace or just have the tranny fully rebuilt? Also Its tricky to get into Reverse, is there a Reverse lock out and some trick to get it into Reverse. And some extra info I was told the tranny has a shift kit and a short throw shifter and I'm not sure if that info is true or not.

Default RE: Transmission Questions

usually when the tranny is having problems going into reverse its time for a rebuild. there is not really a trick. because there is an idler gear that gets pused over and goes into reverse on manual trans. and if your going therw the problems of have the syncro replaced you might as well rebuild it. and while your at it freshin up your clutch. so when all said and done no problems for a long time and yeah.

Is this a good place to get the Rebuild Kit from?
