Default tranny fluid levels th350

ok I know i sound like a complete dumbass asking something like this, but i started my camaro so i could check the tranny level and it didnt seem to be on the dipstick at all so i added about a quart and then it registered on the stick but once i started it again the fluid gets all over the dipstick and does not get me a good reading. i just wanna know if theres any way i can clean the inside of the dipstick tube so tranny fluid from the sides of the tube dont rub off onto the stick. for example i just got my f350 back from the shop and i checked the tranny fluid level and it was like 3 inches over the full section... im guessing its the fluid just moving around and gets a little higher up there is there any way to get a deffinite reading of how much u have short of draining the tranny?

trans fluid will hang on the tube after you add. should drain down and clear. yes you do not want to overfill a transmission so if it is over you will need to get some fluid out. if its not that much over try draining the trans fluid cooler at the radiator.

FYI, going from no fluid showing on the dipstick, then adding only one quart, will get you nowhere near over-filled.
Actually, your level still wouldn't be up to the fill line and might not even be at the "add" line yet.
When checking the level, be sure to run the trans through the gears a few times, then pull the check the dipstick (after pulling and wiping it off first).
If fluid is "pushing" up the fill tube, your trans isn't vented properly. Make sure the vent breather/tube on top of the trans isn't blocked or capped off.
