torn on what to do?
Ok guys I know its been a long time since I posted on here. I have a 78 Camaro that is stripped down to not even a rolling shell. I have an oppritunity to get a 72 camaro split bumper car. I was a 307 3 speed car. It is in I thing worse shape than my 78 was when I got it. It needs the rear frame rails replaced and front and rear floors replaced. It don't have everything with it either. What I get is a rolling shell. The sheet metal is all there. Not all in the best shape but there. Its not all on the car, doors are off and trunk is off. There are no bumpers. I get the windshield and rear window, and taillights. It has a 4inch hardwood cowl hood that is in great shape. The seats are there but need to be recovered. No carpet, headliner, dash, door panels. I think the only intereior is the seats and the wire harness. Are these cars worth 1500 in this kind of shape. There is no motor or trans but I do have my 454 and will get a 4 speed for it. It dose have a clean and clear title. Any advise would be greatly apprreciated.
A valuable car, but not that valueable in the condition described. If the body was nice and straight, and it wasn't a rust bucket, then $1500 would be a huge bargain, even if it didn't have any running gear under it.
If it didn't sound so bad I'd say buy it and make one good early 2nd gen from the '78 and the '72, but doesn't sound like a good project to me.

I was tossing that idea around also take 2 and make on. The floors and frame rails in my 78 are perfect. The body on the 72 might be better than I can remember I know the drivers side fender is dented right on the curve at the top. The quarter panels are really solid on the 72 and on the 78 they both need to be replaced. the tail panel is also solid on the 72 and needs replacing on the 78. the dash is pretty solid on the 72 and not good on the 78. I know it needs some work on the doors but not rotted and the fender needs work alot to concider. The early 2nd gens are my favorite car so I am not sure what to do. Are the floor pans and frame rails the same 72-78.
I think if memory serves me (often not) the floor pans changed a little in 1975 or 76? Somebody will corect that if I'm wrong. Whereabouts are you located? I've got a driver's front fender that's in very good shape off my '71, and also a good L88 style cowl hood.
If you can make the guy a offer of say $500 and leave him your phone number; he may call you if he gets tired of not selling it. Don't be afraid to pull out the cash and tell him that's all you have. He might jusdt surprise you!

Like Val said, the floor pans changed because of the catylitic converter,so the fllors would be different, the frame rails are also a little different, although i have heard of people modifying the later rails to fit the earlier cars.It sounds like a big project, but if the guy would be willing to come down on the price, and you have the ability to do the type of work that it needs, then it may be a very cool car again some day.
you would deff. have one good one from the two, i would take the front end of the 72 and put it on the 78, cut from cowl area of pillars and take the complete outer sheet metal back and put it all on the 78, then take the vin from the 72 and put it on the 78. Big project but i would do it, i love the early 2nd gens to, id get rid of all mine in a heart beat for a one, sentimental or not lol. i can't find anything around here, im even willing to have a frankenstein lol (as long as it the front and rear are the same, i dont care about the rear window or interior as much but the the rest would have to be right).
So I am now the owner of a 1972 chevy camaro. It was a factory 4 speed car. Has a brand new 4 inch hardwood fiberglass hood. Brand new front and rear windows. it has 4 rally wheels, no center caps or rings. The seats need to be recovered but they are there. The floors are not that bad there are a couple holes but not totatly gone. The rear frame rail has one rust spot that needs to be fixed. I got it for a much better deal than the $1500 he was asking. I traded my 78 body and parts and $300 cash I think that it was a pretty good deal now. I will get some pictures up when I get it home.
