It will be a while before i actually buy a new motor for my car but i would like to get an idea of what is being offered and what goes into dropping in a new motor. Realistically, i am still a year away from being able to afford one but lately i have become more and more serious about dedicating myself to saving money for one.

I would like to get a 383 with 450hp. I have seen them on the summit website and on dereberyperformance.com. It seems that this is a fairly common hp/torque set up. I have a 350 right now so i figured it would be just as easy to drop a 383 in as it would be to drop another 350 in.

I have done a google search but i know everyone has their own favorite websites that don't necessarily show up when you type in "chevy crate engine" or "chevy motor", etc. So, if you guys have any websites you would be willing to share, please do. Also, if you have had to do something like this before could you let me know any behind the scenes insights you have/had. For instance, wiring, parts you didn't think you would need but ended up needing, hidden costs that are easily overlooked, etc.

Staying with a smallblock will save a lot of money, because everything will bolt right up. The only thing to keep in mind is the transmission when changing from a standard 350 to a built smallblock. Be sure whatever trans you have will stand up to the extra power.

 

Thanks for the feedback guys. I just rebuilt my trans and built it up too. apparently now it is good up to 450 horses.

If it's good to 450 hp, then it should work with both, but you may need a higher stall converter depending on what you have now.
