Default TH350 strange sound

I just took possession of my 71' and when I was driving it home I noticed that it makes a strange "whining" noise when shifting into gear....it sounds like it has a gear drive but it goes away so I know it doesn't have that......I am thinking about switching the trans for a TCI street fighter TH350 like the one I had in my 70'.....any idea's on what the noise might be? Thanks in advance

First thing I'd check is fluid level! Don't drive it until you're sure it's full. If it's full, then it may be either the front pump, or some restriction in flow. Might be time for a fluid/filter change. Nothing wrong with a new built trans, but I don't like spending money if I don't have to.

Right, I pulled the trans dip stick and it smelled a bit sweet and it seemed low so I will add a little more before I drive it again and I will end up replacing the filter and fluid soon as well.....a good idea to give it fresh everything all the way around just so you know it's all taken care of! Last night I pulled a valve cover off and found this! a good indication that the motor is what the seller said it is. Any info on what you can see from the pic is greatly appreciated (1.5 or 1.6 rockers, valve spring etc) thanks![IMG]Name: TWqle.jpg
