Default Stuck Gearshifter

The gear shift on my Camaro is stuck in drive. It won't go forward or backward. You can still push down the button on the shifter down but the lever won't go into any other position.
It's a Th350 auto on the floor.
Anyone have any Ideas?

Sounds like your shifter is stuck.
Really tho, you'll probably have to get under the car and see if the cable is still connected to the trans linkage arm correctly, and that it's not binding. Having a helper upstairs working the shifter while you're below poking around would be helpful. Does the car drive while the shifter is in "drive", or is that messed up too? The next thing to do after that then would be to disconnect the cable from the trans and see if the shifter moves freely on it's own.

Yes the car drives just fine still. I poked around under the car and took out the console to look at the shift mechanism, but did not find anything obvious.

cable is probably messed up or in a bind.
I have had to shift a Camaro or two with a screw driver from under the car. Just till I got it home.

Yes It is the cable. I disconnected it and can shift the transmission by hand easily, but the shifter is still stuck.
Thanks for the help guys.

Did you disconnect both ends? Might try that first to ensure it's the cable, and not shifter or trans either. If it really is the cable it might be fixed by pulling it off and soaking it in some lubricant overnight.

I had that problem last week. the problem is in the center console. there is a little pin that fell out so it made my car stuck in drive. check in the console before you start messing with the transmission.

I had aftermarket shifter cable too close to my exhaust and burned it so it wouldn't work so now I zip tie it away after I got a new one.
