Default Steering Column Re-assembly Tool

Hello,

I am attempting re-assembly of the steering column on a 1970 Z28 to replace the ignition key cylinder and turn signal switch. The Haynes manual shows that "a special U-shaped tool which fits on the shaft should be used to depress the lock plate" in order to install a snap ring. Does anybody know what this U-shaped tool looks like or where I might find one?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sometimes you have to "think outside the box" and make your own.

Just search for "Steering Wheel lock Plate Remover" Most parts stores will have them, many have them as a loan a tool program. Harbor freight, Amazon, Walmart online.
