Camaro69> Yeah, I looked and found one that I need after you mentioned them. Thanks for the head's up man!

Abritto3> if you get one of those adapters you can install it in about 5 mins. Get a friend to drive their car that you know has a fairly accurate speedometer, drive your car at 60 mph and have him tell you your speed. Or you can find a mile marker and time yourself for a mile at 60 mph (if you have cruise it's easier) and figure up your MPH there and then you can break it down from there using the chevelle site I listed above. Order the correct speedometer gear/adapter and install. It's just unscrewing a cable from the side of the rear of the transmission and screwing on the adapter and then screwing on the cable again.

If you want to find someone local at a transmission shop then go right ahead. You'll probably pay about 200 bucks or more for it. 70 bucks (or whatever they say they buy it at) for the part then another 60 - 80 for them to install it and then whatever else they want to tack on. Their hourly rates are usually pretty high and most places will charge an hour minimum just to touch the car.

If you buy the gear yourself you'll pay about 15 - 20 bucks or if you buy the adapter you'll spend 60 - 80. The rest is your time and if you consider it worth it. If you have money to spend then it's worth it some times.

Abritto> What else is there? Either do it yourself or take it to a transmission specialist. There's no magic answer for this and you've pretty much had all the logical answers given to you. What exactly are you looking for if these are not the answers you seek?

Latinoheat> Mine did that a while back and I found that it was the head of the speedometer gear was slowly tearing off and finally it stopped when the head tore off.
