can you tell me all the possible rear end gear ratios for a stock 80 camaro rs? it does not have posi. to change the ratio can i buy the gears i want and replace them into my stockrear end? thanks

Try this...

You can't just "plop" gears into the rear end though as some of the parts need to be installed with a press.

The hardest part about the gears it getting the shimming right on the ring and pinion. You have to get it just right or you will have bad noises and also chew the gears up in no time

I completely agree. I rebuilt the rear end in my 70 a while back, and although it ended up working out in the end, there were alot of problems. Id suggest finding a reputable shop, buying the parts, and having them press the pinionw/the crush sleeve, etc. The backlash is a critical measurement that just cant be done in the driveway...

Since the topic is gears...whats the spline for 2nd gen? I only ask because according to NastyZ28 the "corporate" rear end (1971-81 8.5' 10 bolt) is 28 spline but there's some gears out there like Richmond and other gears on Ebay that say its 30 spline for a 10 bolt 8.5'?...soooooo who's right?
