Default Speedometer cable question, electronic to mechanical?

Ok, well i have a 355 and a 700R4 tranny. I was told today that trannny has an electrical speedo cable or what ever. It doesnt thread in, the cable is the clip type. Now, the question is if this is true and its not mechanical can i switch it over? Cause i want to get original gauges and gauge bezel. And original speedo would be mechanical? so how would i switch it over and how much would it cost? If this doesnt make any sense sorry just ask questions. Any advice would help. originally i was going to make a stainless gauge bezel cause i have all aftermarket gauges, but i dont have the time to do so.

Yes, they make adapters to go either way. Mechanical to electronic, or electronic to mechanical. Check here:
Speedometer Gear, Speedometer Gears, Ford, GM, Dodge 700R4

No not all are, the one in my 86 pickup is threaded. No electronics in the entire truck really, maybe the radio and garage door opener. LOL

If it has a wire that plugs in, it has whats called a VSS. A vehicle speed sensor.

Are you sure there is not a slip nut slid down that cable?

I think you're right Rydeer. Should be a threaded ring on that end. Some use a threade ring, or a retainer on the speedo end, but the tranny end should all have a threaded ring if they're mechanical.
Need to look further up the cable for the threaded collar.
