It's Saturday morning and i hope everyone that is a member of those forum and their families are well. I guess i have a question and i hope it is appropriate but i would like to see how many people are reading new posts so I'll know if i should stop looking everyday fit new ideas or answers to my questions regarding my 72 SS Camaro. So if everyone is up to a little work respond to this post with your name or username what year Camaro and where you are from I'll start.
Hello Wayne Jackson new member 1972 SS Camaro Highlands Ranch Colorado my car was supposed to be a pick up from 600 miles away and take home and drive and enjoy but after paying for and picking it up and trailering it home in a snow storm i find it needs air of things done to it before i feel comfortable taking it out and letting others give me their opinion on my purchase. The brakes need to be worked on due to a cam install in the L98 fuel injected Vet engine that the last owner installed in the car so i have purchased a vacuum tank too assist the brake booster. The front running light receptacle is bad so ive ordered LED conversion lights for the front and rear of the car. The complete front suspension had been converted to a Firestone Air Ride system that needs some attention. There are these huge 295/50R15 tires on Krager wheels on the back that need air shocks to keep the rear end up and off the rubber which gives a terrible ride quality so ì have ordered new wheels and tires back to just slightly larger then what was stock and then new shocks for the back. There is some surface rust in the trunk that I'm removing and resealing the trunk it's not bad yet but that stuff can kill the most beautiful of cars. Then there are singer very minor body imperfections that thank god a buddy ownes a restoration shop and he wants a bigger engine in his Harley Street Glide so we are trading for that work because that is my profession I'm a Master Mechanic for HD. Then last but not least i have the Muncie 4 speed in the car and the Hurst shifter that is paired to it i need to change the shift stick so that it angles back to me because it on its forward position is less then 2 inches from the dash so Hurst is helping me with that.
So like i said i hope everyone is well i know some will found this post bothersome but i hope the Camaro passionate people will find this post fun and reply to it. Have a great weekend everyone and try and remember why we are here for the love of one of the most iconic vehicles to grace the road the Chevrolet Camaro!
Well hi Wayne, this used to be a really busy forum but like so many it has slowed down a lot due to other social media like Facebook.
That said there's a core group here that stays and they are some of the most knowledgeable folks you'll find anywhere so be patient and stick around.
As for me I'm a long time Camaro enthusiast, bought my first in 1977 a '69 with a clapped out 327 (rod through block) and 4 speed.
I wasn't quite 21 when I got it and it took a while to get it running again but when I did it had a '68 Corvette solid lifter cammed 427.
Had a blast with it and kept it 14 years but it had to go when I had youngsters and was trying to get a home.
Fast forward I'm now almost 65 and rocking a 2001 SS manual six speed with far too many mods to list here, nothing left of the stock suspension and enough motor mods to see about 400/400 at the wheels on a dyno after a tune.
Car is set up for canyon carving but is still plenty fast in a straight line as well.
As for Harley-Davidsons,well I'm a long time enthusiast there as well, bought my first an XLCH kick start Sporty while still in my 20's and have logged around a million miles on two wheels starting with my first motorized two wheeler a Bonanza minibike in 1966.
Current ride is a 2019 Electra Glide Standard,it's my 3rd Electra ,the first an '89 Ultra and the last one was a 2000 Classic purchased new on 1/15/2000.
Sold that bike last year with nearly 200,000 miles on the clock,it had a fresh 103" build with Baisley heads,S&S pretty much everything else featuring .570G cams an SE CV44 carb and Rhinehart true duals.Ran the same build shy of the stroker crank at 95" for almost 90,000 miles when the stock crank finally went south at 189,000 miles.
Nice looking Harleys I've got a 16 Roadglide which is really the only model that Harley makes, in my opinion. It's got about 35k on it but i only really ride it to work and home these days. I've bought, built, and sold dozens of Harleys but owned nothing but Roadglides for the last 15 years. If you need any thing answered on the Harley just ask. I had Mustangs and then a Nova growing up until i was 18 when i entered into the service and nothing with muscle sense. I had friends with gen 1 and gen 2 Camaros and always thought they looked great. When i started looking for a classic car i saw this Camaro and it was love at first sight. It is something to tinker with and take pride in when i drive it. I hope some of these forum people remember the pride and joy they got from their Camaros. And one last thing Facebook sucks.
