Shift Indicator Cable Console Car
I got a 75 camaro with the shift indicator in the instrument cluster. The car has a console shifter. There is a tab that hangs from the cluster. Is there a cable that runs from the console shifter to the gauge cluster. If you have one even on a different year. and you can snap a shot I would greatly appreciate it.
There's a cable that hooks the indicator to the column, then the column has an arm under the hood that has a rod that hooks to the tranny linkage via a pivot system at the frame. I haven't had mine hooked up since the late 70's when I had the engine and trans out for work. This might help:

I don't remember how the cable attaches from indicator to column, but if I remember correctly the indicator always returns to park if the cable breaks, so all you need is a wire, or heavy line of some sort to tie between the column and the indicator tab. You can use iron tie wire and adjust it until the indicator lines up with what position the floor shifter is in, provided all the rest the linkage is intact.

Don't think of that as a floor shifter, the cable connects to the column ring like it would be a column shift. On the pass side of the column there is a screw that a real thin cable attaches to. The shifter is is locked by the key so the floor shifter is attached to the column so chevry used a small cable to run the indicator like that. Hopes this helps some.
thanks BB427 and 5time. I appreciate it. The diagram will help me out greatly. will have to fabricate because none of that crap is there. Thats what makes our passion so interesting. Figuring out ways to make it work.
If you're going to fab something and are not worried about looking stock, then I'd replace a lot of the hard linkage with cables. The operator from the tranny linkage to the outter column can all be done with one Lokar cable, and save a lot of fab work.
