I have an 81' berlinetta with a 231 v6 and I was wondering what that thing on the driverside of the engine compartment is. It has several vacuum lines, one electrical connection, and what looks to be two cables in back going under the car. I'm just curious what it is, I cant seem to find it anywhere. thanks

 

Sounds like the carb with the vacuum lines, one electrical (choke) and two cables (throttle and kickdown). If you had a pic we could tell for sure.

 

Not the carb, its along the side of the engine compartment next to the map sensor, I will try looking for a pic...

That I have no idea what it is. When you first described it I thought you were saying it was a straight 6 with a side mounted carb like on older cars. Just caught that you did in fact say V-6.

I know mine doesn't have it so it might have something to do with emissions. That's just a guess though without a better pic.

 

i had the same question as you my friend i took it to my high school's auto shop and asked my teacher he said its cruise control

 

my first thought was cruise control? seems like excessively complicated, but can't think of anything else that would use all those connections

 

well early cruise controls were pretty weird systems. but from that picture i have no clue what it is. it almost looks like some kind of engine control monitor system from the 80's. till you get a better pic i dont know if any one can identify that
