I'm gonna do this same thing, I'm talking with a guy right now about buying the 454 out of his rv with 60k miles on it. I'm thinking all I'm going to have to do is remove the old engine mounts out of the camaro and find some bb motor mounts to put in there. I'm thinking maybe a taller hood, but other than that I'm pretty sure everything will fit around it.
yep I have a 2 in cowl hood as well have a look in the link there is actually quite a bit of room still.Only tight areas would be exhaust this is why i kept the original manifolds on.dont let the 396 sticker on the air cleaner fool ya. I have the right 454 sticker in place now

Rehash a old post but since your so dang close I could show you.

I have a 74' truck 454 in my 69. There isn't really anything different between a truck block and the car block for 454. Motor mounts mainly. My engine actually has "HI Perf Pass Car" stamped behind the timing chain. GM had a habit of taking the two bolt 454 from the cars of the late 60's and stuffing them in the trucks of the 70's. It was the only place they could put all the excess engines they had after the emmission and gas crunch of the 70's. Along with Insurance compainies kicking guys in the ***** for having BB in cars.

It will take some finess to fit, but it can fit. You might be changing heater boxes if your running a AC heater box. You may need to go to a non-ac heater box. You'll also be looking at different mounts, and other oddities since the block is so much bigger then the small block.

what trucks would have a 496 in them?
99-06 Silverado/Sierra 2500HD. i've test driven one with the 8.1, and all i can say is holy ****!!! never driven a truck that could do a burnout at 40 mph!
I drove my boss' brother's 8.1 vortec. it was a turd. lots of torque, but not alot of acceleration, and i wouldnt expect it from a truck weighing almost 3 tons with only 340hp. 460 ft lbs tho is pretty sweet

Cool, pull was a little dull but the beer was cold.

She pictures better then she looks. I can admit that.

Still looking for the right package tray for it. Also going to change the seats back. The one's in there are not suiting me after a few long drives and people looking at me funny with them in there.

Stereo I may just leave out. Can't hear it anyway if it was in there.

Yea me and my brother got bored with it after awhile and left.
Enjoyed see the 1984 Chevy truck pull though cause we both have Chevy trucks from 1984.

Im having second thoughts though about putting a 454 in the Camaro cause the one that I was gonna put in it is in a truck in a junkyard and trying to pull an engine transmission and crossmember out of a truck lying in the mud and then trying to fit a different trans in the car dosent sound like something I want to do right now.

So maybe ill get that nick on the block fixed and have the 350 thats in it right nowrebuilt

liqiud wrench will work everytime.you dont need the crossmember out of the truck.this combo will fit without to much headache.i still have the a/c box in mine but i,m fixin to take it out.#6 and #8 spark plug is hard to get at with the a/c box in the way.motor mounts out of a bb truck will work.move the cross member back about 4 inches and use the factory one.have a driveshaft cut and rebalanced for about 100 dollars.use the same shifter,it lines up no problem.its really no big deal puttin a bb in a camaro

It may not be aproblem putting it in. But try that without an engine stand or liftand a one car garage.

Then getting the engine out of the truck at the junkyard would be another a whole other story.

Thats why im having second thoughts about that.
