power capability of a 2 bolt main?

Default power capability of a 2 bolt main?

i know the 4 bolt main is better to have...but on my 400 its 2 bolt, original so im not discarding it...what kind of power does a 2 bolt handle up to...if im looking for over 500 am i asking to much?

I assume you are talking about a 400 chevy smallblock, The 400 is a bit out of the norm as far as smallblocks go the 2 bolt 400 is more desirable than the 4 bolt because of thin webbing issues. in general though the 2 bolts are rated at 400 hp . I would really have the block checked out well including sonic checking especially if you plan on a supercharger. If you goal is true reliable performance go with a dart block.

I kind of wondered when you said original engine... I had a 400 455 before niether one put out that kind of power you are right though I dont know a whole lot about them.... just gave the last 4 bbl manifold away lol

if you want to strengthen up a 2 bolt main block (whether it be 305 350 400 chev or pontiac) there are a couple minor things that you can do. instead of using the capscrews that are in the block, get a set of main studs. much stronger and helps prevent cap walk. and also, get a main girdle. it helps stiffen up the block a bit as well as pretty much eliminating cap walk. with those two things, after getting the block checked over really well, and you should have no problem running 500 horse

yea i planned on gettin main studs for it, forgot about the girdle tho, thanx...i also plan to have the block checked thoroughly once i have it dipped and cleaned
