Default parking brake blues

on a 1980 camaro... I cannot for the life of me get the parking brake to work. Just rebuilt the drums, everything is okay in there. If i pull on the cable underneath the car the wheels lock up as they should. Is it possible that the cable is stretched out??? because when the pedal is depressed it doesnt pull the cable till further back in its travel. ALso i turned the adjustment in the middle of the cable way back; and it just locks up the rear wheels. so Pretty much its something to do with the front of the cable. Either the pedal assembly, or where it goes through the floor is seized up bad. Anyone run into this problem???

If the cabble was rusted or frozen up the pedal wont move. Have you looked under the dash to see if the end of the cable is still attached to the pedal assembly? Here's a diagram of the cable routing:

well thats what gets me about this. I can clearly see the cable pull up when i depress the pedal. But when standing underneath the car, the cable will not move AT ALL... I am totally clueless as to why that is.

I'd say it's broken somewhere inside the cable housing between the pedal mechanism and the adjuster where it ties to the rear brakes. I bet if you pull hard on one end or the other it will pull out of the housing.

I understand where you are coming from brother....

I think its a combination of things.... I just gotta figure out how to get the cable out. I am going to just replace it.... Its the original one.... and on an old car like this... its better just to make the thing work and avoid accidents later..... bust out the air chisel and get rid of it!!!! (Between the pedal assembly and the adjuster. )
