If needed I can grab some pictures of this silver cap thingy.
He means the antenna is a tiny wire that is laminated up the center of the windshield, and across the top each direction. The glass actually has a plug in connector at bottom center for the cable from the radio.
Very few people got the external antenna, as most were equipped with the antenna in the winshield. If you look closely on your's you'll see the tiny wires inside the glass at the center.

I believe the car came with a power antenna as an option. At least it had the power antenna (didn't work) when I bought it. The 80 Camaro I had as a new car way back did have the antenna in the windshield. I added the mast antenna instead of going with the power unit.

Well ... This is one of those awkward and strange moments where the only thing I've got to say is: "Well I'll be damned that's what that is."
What is the little weird silver cap thingy then? I'll have to take a few pictures later so that I don't sound completely insane fantasizing over a aftermarket thingy that none of you have ever even heard of.

The cap covers the terminals at the base of the windshield.

Uhhh... It's like a good foot away from the windshield on the drivers side fender. I'll take pictures when its light out, the fuse in my garage went out for lights and for once I don't have a spare. I always thought this little silver cap thingy was part of the antenna.

Guess I'll need to see what you're talking about. My windshield antenna has a small cap that goes over the wire connection right at the base of the windshield, so thought that was what you meant.

Were there some years of the later 2nd gens where the fenders are the same style/fit, but the antenna application was different? Or was the windshield antenna an option?
Thinking possibly the fender was replaced with a body antenna style fender, so the unused hole was capped off?

very nice. Have been wanting a purple camaro for some time now. I like the purple that was offered on the 92 Camaro's? Either way, it was the later 3rd gen's.

congrats
