Earlier you said it has a fan shroud, I don't see one. The fan would fit into the opening of the shroud which forces it to pull air through the radiator. With it the way I see it, the fan is also pulling air from around the radiator. The way you have it set up now is the cause of your overheating, I've been there.

There is a fan shroud. Sorry it's not in the image but it's there I promise. That's just how far back the fan actually sits, and you can see how whimpy the fan is too.

Is that an aftermarket shroud, because it looks like a shallow metal ring to me? If you had more like a factory deep style shroud, the fan blade might then be recessed into it, and that's what you want. Maybe another picture with a different perspective might help to see what you have?

Yeah it helps, that angled shot is kind of deceiving to show the true depth. See what the stock fan blade does when you put it on, it should have wider blades than the fan you have now. What you have is called a "flex fan" which is more for "performance" since it cuts less air (less drag), and the blades flex to straighten out somewhat as the engine's rpm's get higher, which cuts down more on drag. Sometimes you can get away with using those types of blades, sometimes not.
Have you checked your ignition timing yet?

fyi to post a picture copy the img code to your post. keep on the lookout for a stock style shroud. whats in there looks like its made to make the opening smaller but does not come out towards the motor like ive seen on gm cars. is it cut?

glad to help, you can time it by ear, havent done it in a while, im sure 69 will correct me, with the motor runnin at idle, turn the distributor clockwise till it starts missing then bring it back a bit till it smooths out. that should be a little advanced, goin the other way will leave it retarted. dont losen the distributor to much just enough so you can turn it. to lose and you lose ground.

If you don't have a timing light, buy one. It'll come in handy more than once in your life.
