Default Noob needs help with senders and gauges

I'm installing new gauges, old ones had been raped and destroyed by prior owner, so I'm having hard time identifying the wires, etc. Is there a conversion wire harness that would make it easy to convert. Also I can't find the temperature wire. I wanted to trace it from the engine compartment, but not sure where to look. Any help?

They do make a gauge harness. Summit sells them. What are you trying to hook up? Mechanical or electric gauges? Mech gauges use a thermocouple for the temp gauge, usually in the side of the head or top of the intake. The stock temp gauge on my 78 has a green wire, about 16 gauge and runs to the head. Mechanical oil pressure gauges run a plastic or copper tube from the top of the block near the distributer. Volt meters run to a 12v + and -- . I stay away from ammeters, but I belive they run between the main feed to the bat. from the alt. I have never seen it but have heard of people burning there car down with them. It is the best way to tell what your alt. is doing. Appropriate wire gauge is important with both. Speaker wire won't cut it. LOL Maybe Vall will chim in he's the resident electrician.
