Well guys, im a newbie here, and looking for a littlee bit of help.

I'm most likely trading my 84 SC project for this 81. He claims its an 81, but said its an RS with no ground effects.. As we know, theres no such thing, but it has the functioning z28 cowl induction scoop. Does anyone know a way to determine the year by looking at it, and determining if theres a possibility of it being a z?

I'm gonna try to get the VIN tomorrow, so i'll know for sure, but its killing me.
Thanks, Scott

Well it is definitely a 77-81, but I'm still new enough not to know for sure 100% what year in that range it is. When you do get that VIN go to this VIN decoder http://www.nastyz28.com/camaro/camaro81.php. NastyZ28 is a huge source of information. Also if you get under the front end and the sway bar is like an inch and a half wide then you've got a Z28 on your hands. The production numbers were pretty high for Z28's so there is already a high probability its for real. Also if your fifth digit is a P and your eigth digit is an L you've got a Z28. Or you can look at your cowl tag and if it says Z28 on it you've got a Z-28. Don't qoute me on all of this because I have only discerned all of this from nastyZ28.com and I am no Camaro expert. Another thing I am pretty sure of is that it would have a Z28 emblem on the front grill and I know for sure on the taillights. I also believe that the Z28's got a paint stripe set around the lower part of the car which said Z28 on the doors of the car. Thats all I can say to help you. That VIN decoder will give you a lot more info about the 1981 models if you go there.

didnt the z cars have fender vents in those years too my 79 z has the vents, emblem on the fuel cap cover, steering wheel, and wheel caps. But the steering wheel and wheels have been changed on that one.

It's hard to tell in the pic but the grille looks to be an 81 grille,Also like stated above if it were a z28 it would have the fender vents,it woud also have the wheel flares.I guess it is possible that if it was a z that someone could have removed these items through the years, but highly unlikely. It's still a nice looking car though.

Accually as we all know there is no such thing as a RS with flares. Fender vents in 78, + chin spoiler in 79,+ rear wheel flairs in 80. Unchanged for 81. All are z28 only.

The dash says 79-81. The grill is 78-79. The 80-81 are like louvers. Chrome headlight buckets and chrome window trim were not available on z28's Both are black. The grilll is a z grill not an RS. The base camaro would be chrome. The hood scoop is 80-81 Z28, it would be easy to swap the hood and hook up the air induction on another car. This car is alittle bit of everything. Its all cool. The only thing I know from the pics is its not a z. It could be a RS. Get the vin as stated and run it on the nasty site. Get the cowl tag info too. That has the trim options, with I think the RS was just a trim option.

yeah i think it's an 81 by looking at it, the grille is a 81 grille and unless the PO changed a bunch of crap like stated above its deff not a Z maybe RS but not Z ie: Z's also came with black window trim along with the light bezels, vents, flares etc. Nice project NTL, keep us updated on it. And is it just me or does it look like something is wrong near the pass rearview? looks like a photo chop or something?

But whatever you do get rid of those IMO ugly rims lol

trunk spoilers were optional on the sport coupe i'm pretty sure, but it might be an rs deff not a Z, easy clone? looks solid from the pics, nice start.

BTW welcome aboard
