I know Advanced Auto carries Moog and generally will have what you need in stock.

Good to know Advanced carries that brand. I wasnt aware of that. Thanks for that tidbit.

The thing about not knowing what all needs to be replaced goes like this.

I have had late model cars for the last 10 years. Its been a while since I was wrenching on anything but Im eager to get back into it and also eager to help my nephew get into it. He is 17 as of now.

Im going to be relying on you all and the web itself to help figure out whats what when it comes to rebuilding. If it was a piece that was broken....ok this tie rod snapped, buy a new one and replace it. But a "front end rebuild" is kinda vague to me. I havent gotten furter than brakes on a front end in almost 20 years.

It'd be great if "rebuilding the front end" meant buy this box of stuff and you can buy the good, better and best option. And that would come with everything from soup to nuts.

Is there such a thing as an exploded view for automobiles?

Yes there are repros of original shop manuals available on the internet. They will have all the details of exploded views. Or you could look for old Motors Manuals for the year covering your Camaro. They're very good at walking through a suspension rebuild.
I bought a bushing kit from Summit for under $70 that had every poly bushing needed for both front and rear suspension. Then I just got tie rod ends and ball joints separately. Really pretty simple to rebuild if you've got good mechanical skills.

its more like there is a gap when the steering wheel is in its up-right position and the car is going straight. if the wheel was at center at 12 o'clock, you can turn it to 1 o'clock before the wheels turn so figure an hour of play ...lol if that makes any sense at all.
wow you have almost the exact same situation as me im still in high school just bought camaro and my speedo doesnt' work haha...as far as play my car has about half an inch of nothing in each direction before it turns...when i was test driving the car i wasn't sure if it was bad but the car runs along straighter than our 2004 chev van and it's really responsive if you ignore the play...im not sure but my dad had a 80z28 like 20 years ago and said it was the same so maybe it was just a stock thing for the steering to have some play....im not an expert but i don't think its a bad thing to have play just as long as its not sloppy

Its kind of sloppy. If it was my car Id prolly leave it be or find a cheaper/easier fix. But since its my nephew, I wanna give him something a bit safer.

Just a thought....I had the same problem with my steering one time and it was the steering box/knuckle. It had slack in it and I just found another one from the junk yard. Easy fix. Hope this helps.

I have a 1979 Z-28 RS Camaro. So I can probably help you. I would use Moog components on The tranny needs to be gone through. I would go through the rest of the car. To make sure its safe to drive.Check the fluids as well and change them as needed. A second gen Camaro are a good safe car .Because they are built like tanks .And good source of information is one of local Camaro clubs .Such as the Pacific NW Camaro club .And there are others as well .I live in Federal Way. So I might be help you with local sources. Good luck to you.
