Replaced the header gaskets today. Stopped the horrible hissing sound. It's still leaking exhaust from where the header meets the exhaust pipe. Nothing terrible, but its pretty loud since the passenger floorboard has a 5"x6" hole in it now. Will probably get that shorted out tomorrow.

no pics.. aside from that nothing else has been done. Been kind of busy lately.

Probably just a gasket, unless the flange is bent. If so you can possibly put two gaskets on, or a thicker gasket and solve the problem.

It looks like the bolts aren't tightened down completely leaving a gap at the top, and the gasket wiggles back and forth. So it just gotta tighten it up.

Tightened the exhaust up as much as possible. May have to go with 1971BB's idea of putting in 2 gaskets in each to seal it up better.

Replaced the starter, and it still doesn't start from inside the car. Any ideas? It doesn't have an ignition to turn key. It's just a small metal rod type deal you gotta push or pull to imitate turning the key.
(push in once=turning key over.. push in completely=cranking.. pull out completely= turning key backwards)

Anyone know why the car won't start from inside the car? For now I have to push the rod(key) in, go under the hood, and touch the starter wires together in order to crank it.

Sounds like a simple switch, and should be easy to figure out with a 12 volt test lamp. Pushing in seems to work, so that part is OK. Put a test lamp on the output terminal that should become hot when you want to crank the engine. Then turn the switch to that position and see if the test light comes on. If it does, then you just need a new wire from there to the starter. If it doesn't, then your switch is bad and needs replacing.

So the wire connecting the ignition with the starter could just have a bad connection? Hopefully that's all it is. Will check it out tomorrow.

Replacing the steering column, and ignition is next on the list. Hopefull will have all the motor/driving kinks worked out by then.

Done some snooping around under the rear end today, and noticed my frame in the rear is pretty bad rusted. Gonna grind it out tomorrow, and hopefully get all these spots welded up nice soon.

Forgot to mention I got the trunk lid sanded and primered.

How'd what come out?

Anyone know where I can get a guide to follow to check the ignition step by step. I got Haynes book but it really doesn't go into any detail on this subject.
