Ya, just get a nice set of long tube headers, a good mandrel bent exhaust with an h-pipe. I like magnaflow for mufflers. They sound good on pretty much everything I have heard. Also a good k&n filter wouldn't hurt too much on the intake side. Mine was only like $30 from advance auto parts. once you have it running good then you can look into a cam and some roller rockers to give it a bit more performance and muscle car sound.

Get a good set of headers, but don't go too large on the primary tubes! Something around 1 1/2"-1 5/8" will be better, as you'll lose power going too large. For exhaust I'd find out about any environmental restrictions in your area first. If your car needs to go through testing or inspection, then you need a catback exhaust to keep it legal.
If there's no restrictions then I'd order the Summit system on sale for $179 for a full length exhaust. Or this complete kit with headers and exhaust for $289

The Summit system doesn't sound bad, and going all the way out it doesn't dust your car blowing exhaust on the ground.

Well I was going to use the Pypes kit. After hearing the cars at Pour tour with Pypes mufflers I am not doing it. I just don't like them, Flowmasters are the way for me.

You can not beat and x-pipe for sound. I get compliments every where I go. Even at the drag strip.
