Exclamation more starter troubles!

ok, i have found the casting numbers of my block and apparently it is a GM 350 made in mexico lol, doesnt give me a warm fuzzy fealing but still, i have tried a 350 starter, but only 2 of the 3 bolts line up, and when i try it, it sounds like the bendix spun freely. so i take it back and they give me a different starter with 2 mounts and a longer bendix, but it does not fit in the whole, since it used to be a 305, would the tranny NEED a 305 starter and not a 350? and the flywheel is pretty chewed up, but it should still hit the damn thing, teeth arnt missing they are just beat to hell lol

so this is a 78 camaro? auto? u need to know the size and/or number of teeth on the flywheel or flexplate. if all that was changed was the motor then the original starter that came with the 305 should work.

it's a 4spd Muncie, and i THINK it is a 168 tooth pattern, although am not positive and dont know how to figure it out short of counting the teeth, is the radius different for each and i could perhaps measure across it?

You have a choice of having a 168 or 153 tooth flywheel. There is a difference in diameters between them. The starter for the 153 tooth flywheel has two straight across mounting holes, and the two mounting holes for the 168 flywheel are at an angle. One won't work for the other, and it won't even be a "close one".
