lug nut help

Default lug nut help

i have a set of american racing ar27 wheels 15x8
went to put them on my 80 and the lug studs were too short an in the didn't stich out past the wheel
do i need longer studs or a different type lug nut

that's what i thought but was also thinking i may need to get some shanked lug nuts so the shank will go down into the wheel

Is the area around the lug holes on the wheels tapered or flat? If they're flat, you need to use "mag" style lug nuts. They are shanked, meaning part of the lug nut goes down inside the hole of the wheel. I'll find a picture...
Edit: ^ You snuck in there...I see you know what shanked nuts are.

You don't need the studs to stick out past the surface of the wheel. If it's flush or slightly below that's fine. Take your wheel to a dealer and tell him what car it's going on. The shank on the lugnut should be long enough to go into the wheel almost full depth with a washer, but not deeper or it wont tighten on the wheel.
