Thanks guys, does anyone run a 7qt pan? how much oil do you use? It really doesn't matter to me how much I put in like i'm not trying to cheap out and not put the full amount in to save a couple bucks I just want to get it right. Also back to the dipstick, can anyone measure thier's or tell me what the correct length is and the distances of the markings so I can check if mines right?

I'm not running one now, but when I had one it took almost 8 qts. with the filter to fill it. Mine used the stock dipstick on my 283 I had. If you run it lower than full with the style sump you have the pickup may occasionally get starved of oil.
The old deep sump pans had the extra volume lower, not to the side like your's. Those were designed to run lower levels to keep oil from hitting the counterweights and robbing HP. With the correct pickup you could run them a qt. low and still have no issues.

The first picture with the red arrow, I didn't know if you were wanting to know what that was or what but there is one of those on each side of the transmission it's used to hold the transmission while it's being rebuilt.

Oh wow i didn't know that. I guess i was completely off thinking that that could be where the speedo cable went haha thanks for showing that. So i'll run the 7+1 when i get around to changing the oil in a few days. What weight of oil should I be putting in it since i only drive it in the summer? 10W-30 or should I go thicker?

I run straight 30 w. in all my rides, but we don't get really cold winters anyway. I'd never run anything that was 5w. on one end like 5w-30w or 5w-40w. Make sure you run a good oil that has zinc in it for your lifters, and nothing that has the SN rating on it! SM is fine, but SN is the new high detergent oil and it will raise havoc with your lifters.

I'd go 30w. If you plan on cruising late fall switch to 10w30. It should be just ready for an oil change by then.
