Not all brand name parts are expensive, but some brands are always too expensive. Get good parts from a reputable place, and don't use used parts for some things. There are things like engine internals that I wont buy used. Likewise for suspension parts, but a used rear axle is fine by me.
I'm the king of tightwads, but I don't scrimp on things that will leave me stranded, or in the hospital.

Has they lasted this long? I think most people who looked closely at their suspension components would find they're in sad shape if they haven't been previously replaced. Suspension bushings and joints have to get pretty bad before people notice. My A arm bushings were nearly gone, and my car still handled and drove fine. I was shocked they were that bad and not feel it in the wheel.
As for brakes; I'd be fine with used discs or drums, but not used shoes or pads. They're too cheap new, so no reason to buy used.

Nothing wrong with stock rubber bushings.
