Default heaterbox to defroster vents gap?

hey guys, does anyone have photographs of where their heater box hooks up to the defroster vents behind the dash by chance? I'm replacing my dash currently and when I removed it it seems like as if there's a huge (if 3/4's of an inch is huge) gap between the heater box and the defroster vents. Is there supposed to be a flexible pipe or something connecting them? The gap seems too close for that but the guy who owned this before me has done a lot of stuff to it (very half assed I might add) and I keep finding stuff like this. Nothing major so far but just little things. I'll try and get a pic of it here in a few mins to post.

btw, 74 type LT Z28.

when i tore mine apart there was weatherstripping around the inside of the big duct.when you slip the the littleduct inside the big duct it helped to lessen that gap.i then used duct tape around the two ,connecting the two.1/2" weatherstripping worked fine

Here's a pic of what I was talking about... I'm definantly going to have to get some weather stripping for the other parts. This though looks as if it's supposed to be bolting to something but I'm not sure what exactly.

Not sure if the picture makes sense but the upper duct goes into the dual defroster vents (shaped like a "Y") that come up in front of the windshield. This is a pic of them from Ebay.

Anyone? I really wanted to get this done before I put the upper and lower dash back together and in the car. I've fixed most of the upper AC/Heating ductwork and replaced the dash with one out of a 75 that's in better shape than my old one. It's getting close to putting the dash back in and I was wanting to know if anyone had any clues as to how the defroster ductwork attached to the interior heater box. If anyone has any pictures of theirs and how it's attached I would be especially grateful.

Thanks!

When i took the dash off my 79 i found the exact gap that your talking about. I figured something must have been removed so I meant to replace it. Then i forgot about it and replaced the new dash. So much for me fixing it. Make sure you do something to it though because without some kind of seal there my defroster is getting no pressure and is pretty much worthless.
