Howzit? I am in South Africa (Cape Town), got a 71 307ci Camaro and I've got a 71 Z28. I got theZ28 about 3 month ago and have been doig up the motor despite being unable to establish the deciefer the engine code. aspent many hours on various sites but H has not been established. My block is a GM 3970010 and code is K 01 23 H. So K= McKinnon, 01= January, 23=23rd and H= ??????. Can anyone help me here? Thanks.

Hope u're doing well and thank you. I have been to this site and I have down loaded what I think is the entire GM engine block & code list, But H aint there. Someone suggested this may a Chev truck motor, but why in my car ? What would the advantage have been to have doen this ? What ever it was, this car hops at high speed, it red lines at 6500 rpm and the wheels spin into 4th gear. Still I would like to find the origin of this motor. My 307 was easy, all numbers matching and identifiable. Thanks again.

 

an owner at some point had the motor replaced most likely, and it is probably a truck motor. it sounds like a 3rd gen motor, and the H code being a 305.
