Default Gears

Hey, im new to this and Ive looked around the internet but i cannot find my answer. The question im trying to figure out is if i turned my SB350 into a 383 stroker what gears should i use in the rear end to get the best mileage and at the same time have power to spin the tires (right now i have 4.11 gears in it) or should i just keep it a 350 and if i do what gears should i put in it? And by the way the car is a 75 LT with a turbo 350 tranny.

This is a subject that gets lots of opinions and I bet you'll get multiple answers all different. If you want gas mileage and performance you don't want 4.11 or even 3.73 gears. Neither will give you good mileage, but then again spinning your tires wont give good mileage either!
It all depends on how the engine is built, as to whether you can still spin your tires when it's done. Both 383 and 350 can easily spin the tires with just about any gear ratio if you build them right. The lower 4.11 gears actually wont spin them as much since the lower range will catch up quicker. It will launch harder with lower gears, but quickly catch up and not spin the tires once it does.
I personally would go with no lower than 3:73 with either engine, and you could easily get away with 3:42 with the 383 that's got good HP built into it.

A properly built motor will fry tires regardless. Your pretty vague on your motor so I'll cough up 3.42 just for the hell of it I guess. Strokers are usually good and torquey, and torque is what spins tire and lays your but in the seat. The more torque the less gear you'll need. The point is everything has to work together and needs to be planned accordingly. You need to know your goals and budget as well as if its street/strip or strip/street or just a street bully or just a car for smoking the tires for fun. Then get a detailed description of the engine combo. Mileage is all keeping your foot out of it and being in good tune.
