Default Front springs and shocks

Has anyone put front springs in without a spring compressor. The reason I'm asking is because mine just slid in. I chalked it up to them just being shorter and maybe the control arms dropping the spring cup alittle. So I moved on. I put the rest of the suspension and the engine in to get the weight settled before tighten anything up and putting shocks in.

My real question is the shock is so short it will keep the suspension compressed and the shock fully extended if I bolt them in. Never having messed with front ends that much should I have to compress the suspension this much to get the shock in? I plan on calling the company I got them from on Monday but if anyone can shed alittle light on this please do so.
