Default Exhaust for a 77

Got my 77 finally, runs awesome and all, had some crappy exhaust on it so i just cut it off and now im lookin through my options for exhaust. Its got a 350 in it so i know it can make some nice noise but i want somthin loud and growling, ya know? The guy who sold it to me mentioned i could get corvette headers or somthing and then just straight pipe it back, my guy who i buy my exhaust stuff from suggested dualing it with 3 inch pipes comming back to dual Encynerators, but i wanna get yalls opinion. Thanx!

Corvette headers probably would not fit - they're made for a Corvette, but no doubt you can find a good set of long tube headers that will fit a '77 - call or look at some of the big company web sites -- Hooker, MAC, Hurst. etc. Long tubes will do you much better (26 inch or more would be best), probably 1 1/2 inch diamter or 1 3/4 if you have a really modded motor.

Straight pipes with no mufflers, particularly if you have no cats, will be very loud. 3" dual pipes are also a bit too big: you can go too big with the pipes and over reduce backpressure.

I would think that a 2 1/2 inch dual piupe setup back to a pair of magnaflow mufflers would prodce a good sound, particularly with those headers. Magnaflow has various standard oval-body mufflers and you can go on their site and pick some.
