Engine shut off question.
Ok so i just bought my '78 Camaro a couple of days ago. I just rotated the tires because it had a severe pull to the right and the previous owner said it needed an alignment done. Anyway my problem is that every time i accelerate hard the engine will cut off, also when i start it let it run for a couple mins and then go and cut sharply it'll shut off any ideas what keeps doing this? Maybe my battery is starting to die?
When it "cuts off" does it catch and run if you let off the throttle quickly? If so, then it is most likely a carb thing. Could also be something simpler like a fuel filter that's not allowing enough flow to keep the bowls full.
when u it the gas does it really bog out and sputter and die? thats what my 78 was doing when i first got it and i had a 4bbl Rochester which was all kinds of gunky, a rebuild of that and a new choke fixed the problem right away, all together it was maybe $20 for the rebuild kit and choke, but my real problem was the choke was actually missing lol
Problems while accelerating hard and taking sharp turns makes me think of two things; a fuel supply issue, or a possible loose wire. Check your wiring under the hood for anything loose, like a coil wire, etc. How much gas is in the tank, and is your gas gauge accurate? Any chance you're running on fumes but don't know it. Does it act any differently whether you have a full or low tank?
Alrighty then. Wait till the engine is bone cold, then remove the air cleaner and see if the choke butterfly is closed, or most of the way closed. I have a feeling the choke is either not closed enough, or just not working at all.
