Default electric fuel pump

I just purchased a 68 camaro SS 396 and the electric fuel pump that is currently installed is very loud. I hear it at running at all times. Even with the windows down and cruising down the highway. Is this how they all sound? It was installed when the car was restored in '82 so my guess is that there are better, quieter ones out there. Any suggestions?

Also I am not happy with the restrictive, quiet mufflers that are on there. I was thinking of putting Flowmaster super 40's on there with turndowns. Anyone out there have them on their camaros? If so, pro's cons?
Thanks

Electric fuel pumps do like to whine, and if it is mounted directly on a metal part the noise will be bradcast all over the car. May want to try to use some rubber cushions to isolate it from the chassis. The 396 Camaro came from the factory with a very restrictive exhaust system, and responds really well to headers, and a free flowing exhaust.

I haven't had a chance to see how it is mounted or what type of pump it is, but it sounds like it is mounted directly to the metal in the trunk. A spacer or damper in between the pump and the car sounds like an idea that should help some. If for some reason that doesn't work, I will see if there is a way to move it from the trunk to under the car somewhere.

As for the exhaust, it already has headers on the car but the current exhaust from the headers back sounds like it is blowing through a straw.
I am going to go with the new super 40's flowmasters. I guess it is a deeper tone than the traditional 40 series. Thanks for the tips!
