Hi guys,, am new in the second generation camaros and am confused about the camaro that am interested in,, It has auto turbo-transmission " as the seller said" with the lever mounted on the steering column which is kinda strange for me,, i googled about this strange transmission lever but i couldnt find any thing!!! any help or information about this 350 1971 camaro please

 

by turbo he probably ment a turbo hydromatic 350 or a turbo hydromatic 400...as for the steering colum ive never seen a camaro with a colum shifter. so what i think is the car got into an accident or just needed anew steering colum...a lil fishy sounding though

 

it's called a colum shift...Don't think the camaro's came with them..but you can convert it back to floor easy.

 

Here is a pic of my 69. Look at the column, you can see a hole there where the factory shifter once was, (forward of the key hole) the PO installed (poorly I might add) a floor shifter and removed the lever from the column. The bezel remained though. So Camaro's came with column or floor shifters.

 

Thnx guys for the help,,,thebandit110, i ment a turbo-hydo transmission "typo" I know that there is no turbo or naturally aspirated transmissions ,,and thank u cplthomas for the PIC,,, but what i would like to knw" how can i knw if this 71 camaro came with a column shifter originally and it wasnt modified??" any idea!!!

 

I would think that if there isn't a remaining or left over bezel, like mine you would have to look at the internals of the column to see if there have been any modifications done to it. Or you could run the numbers or the tranny to see if its original or not. I have heard that its harder to go from floor shifter to column than to go from column to floor, I am inclined to thinkyours isoriginal.
