Confused.....67 or 68 Camaro
I am really confused and need some expertise. I have a 67 Camaro (or maybe 68).
The title says it is a 1967 & the VIN matches the title, the VIN # is:
124377Lxxxxxx
1= Chevrolet
2= Camaro
4= 8cyl engine
37= 2 door coupe
7= 1967 model year
L= LOS (Los Angeles, California assembly plant
Also, the Cowl tag located on the firewall shows the code "67" for 1967.
Here is the confusing part.....
It does not have side wing windows - all facts I have read about 67 camaro state they do have wing windows.
It does have side marker lights - all facts say the 67 did not have the side marker lights, 1968 was the first year they put the side marker lights on the car.
The VIN tag is mounted visible thru the windshield - all facts say the 67 camaro was the only camaro model to have it's VIN tag mounted to the door hinge pillar. The VIN tags of later models moved the positions visible through the windshield.
Any idea's?

When did you get the car. Sounds like someone may have played a few games with the numbers and tags, 67 VIN and ownership on a 68 car. You can pull the cowl pannel off and I believe there is a partial VIN stamped into the body towards the pass side below the windshield. Do a search for alternative VIN locations for first gens.

What does your VIN tag look like? The 1968 and newer is one strip of numbers, the tag is mounted underneath the cowl, and the cowl is cut out for the numbers to show through. A 67 cowl wouldn't have a cut-out. Plus the 67 VIN tag is taller and says "Chevrolet DD" above the numbers, in addition to being mounted on the hinge pillar as mentioned.
68 parts could have been swapped to a 67 to make it look like a 68, but the tag issue is something else. Out of curiosity, do your serial numbers fall near the end of the production run (100001-220906)? Either you have an odd-ball, or a forgery.
Give this a look: http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#VIN

sounds like someone had a car (68) that couldnt be titled for some reason?(theft?)
so they swapped the 67 tags from a donor (rustbucket?) to get it legal.
or the67 was a high end ss,z/28 etc.. and was rotten beyond repair and they thought a plain janer 68 would be easy to swap tags onto for higher resale??

Does it have side markers in the back or just the front fenders?
Could have used the front clip and doors from a '68.
Even then it would be easy enough to cut in the rear markers.
I agree with others though,sounds like a car made from two cars using a good '68 body and the title etc from a '67.

do the doors have provisions for the wing windows? ive seen where they been pulled out and replaced with one piece glass like a 68. does it have the chrome air vents in the dash for the 68 astro ventalation?

It might not help but look at the rear end, in 67 both shocks where mounted in front of the axle. in 68 they moved the left (drivers) shock rearward allowing to better control wheel hop. Or course if they replaced the rear they may have moved the shocks.
i think that the car may have had a bad front end wreck and the whole front end may have been replaced with 68 fenders/doors, that still doesnt give a good reason for the tag behind the windshield. I'm guessing the tag behind the window says that it is a 67 also? Might wanna pull off the dash panel and see is their is a little bit of cutting, welding, and grinding that isn't factory.
