Default Clear plastic protruding from cluster

I bought a 79-81 U14 cluster. I assume it was from a manuel car because it didn't come with a shift indicator.
There is a clear plastic stick faceing out between the speedo and the 2 small gauges on the left. The box provides its own light source next to the left blinker. The only thing I could think it could be is a shift up light for a manual transmission.

It is a 79-81 cluster. They're all the same (70-81) except the there are TWO clear stalks that are on either side and the speedo losing some numbers over the years. The older blinkers were down low. The stalks just route the light up to the new location on 79 and later dashes. I have some pics around here that I took when I swapped mine over.

Please post pics. I only have one stalk on the left side and the box matches up. Are you saying that the stalks route just light, or isthe it an indicator light.

They just route light. I can't find the pics on my computer. I'll try and get you some, the cluster is tucked away in the garage right now.

while you guys are on the gauge subject, can the gauges on a 78 cluster be replaced with autometer gauges? if so, easy plug and play? or does it require rewiring every gauge? thanks for the input.

Thanks Nomad, i see what you are sayeing. It reroutes the light for the turn signal.

Mike, you have to buy a bezel that allows you to mount aftermarket gauges (bigger holes) and tear apart your wireing harness. Since I have a base model 78, I wanted a full feature cluster and I wanted red light and black face gauges. I was gonna do AutoMeter ES gauges that were black faced and lit up red. By the time you purchase the gauges (speedo:$250ish, tach:$150ish) and bezel, your looking at over $700. The shift indicator lit from lokar is $200. For $800 you can get a digi set up from Dakota digital, but the y only have teal or blue, no red.

I found something on the internet where you take your cluster apart, strip her down to the white plastic. You can spary paint what ever color you want. The bulb's light will reflect what ever color you want. Just remember how to put everything back together.

You could call Daniel at Gaugemarks and he'll redo the faces in what ever color you want, then add an oil pressure gauge. Then put new numbers on. Set the red line where you want. For around 200.
