The VIN doesn't give a lot of the information like your looking for. The Camaro White Book breaks the VIN down like this:
Vehicle Identification Number Example: 124870N500000
Third Digit Engine: 3 for 6 cylinder, 4 for V8
Forth and Fifth Digits Body Style: (87) the Sport Coupe was the only option in 1971.
Sixth Digit Year: 0=1970, 1=1971
Seventh Digit Production Plant: N=Norwood,Ohio, L=Van Nuys
Last Six Digits increase by one with each car built at each plant started at 500000
As you can see above, the model year, engine type (not cubic inch), plant built and the sequence of production is all that can be determine from the VIN. The cowl tag on the firewall will give a little more information like body color, interior type and color, plus the month and week of production. You would need to have the Owners Protection Plate, window sticker or build sheet to know what equipment came originally on the car.
