So I broke a piston ring in the 74's 355 and just going to change it over to the 525hp from my 01 since it is out and I'm selling the car.

Still debating on keeping the engine EFI or going carb'd. I know I can do it cheaper carb'd and have heard conflicting accounts of losing/gaining horsepower from both.

I'm pulling the harness and computer from the 01 but I'll need to get an aftermarket tank if I go EFI in the 74. I've heard that the Holley, Tanks Inc, Aeromotive, etc., direct fit ones have some problems with fuel starvation during high load/high g/acceleration when under 1/3 of a tank. Does anyone have any experience with that? I've also thought about just adding a surge type tank in the trunk that's a constant 1 - 2 gallon capacity. I thought I saw a guy using one to power his full EFI setup a few years ago with his stock tank in a late 60's Nova with twin turbos.

Has anyone stripped a harness from a 4th gen Camaro down to bare necessities? Does anyone have any links or info showing what needs to be done to make the harness minimalist for the 74? I thought about just buying a Painless harness (or some equivalent) for my setup.

What would you do if you had the choice between EFI and carb'd and why would you do it? I know how to work with both decently but looking for more perspectives.

A lot of good info over at Sloppy mechanic website. IMO EFI hands down. There are a lot of options. You can drop the GM stuff and get a stand alone system and there are a lot of companies that do new harnesses even some that will strip yours.

Heck you can even build your own PCM with the Mega squirt kit, that is a hobbie in itself but once you know it you become unlimited. I have a friend that used tubes from old pool to build an intake and junk yard sensors to fuel inject a MG spitfire.
