Default Catalytic Converter?

If I build a 69 Camaro, will I have to put Cats on? I know if you have a car before a certain age that you don't have to have them, but I didn't know if you build one whether you have to put them on or not.

i think its up until mid 70's when they started putting cats on, so if your car didn't come with them, you dont need them...

Here is the deal. I checked all of this out when I was planning to put my 81 on the road for my first car this summer, You need them if the car was made after 1976 or during 1976 but they made a new law that says you dont need them if your car is 20 years old or older. Your in the clear.
