Yes, Q jets can work, and do work OK when they're tuned perfectly. Problem is getting them to that point costs way too much time and money. I just can't see any reason to lose that for myself.

Well for anyone still interested, I took some jets from another quadrajet I had laying around and just to see what would happen I drilled them out with a 5/64" drill bit and put them in the carb.
It now runs sooooo much better and the hesitation is almost gone.
So If I had to guess I would say the warped air horn is sucking in air and the larger jets and smaller metering rods are letting in enough fuel to make up for the extra air.
So tomorrow I will go to the junkyard and search through all their old GM cars and trucks looking for an air horn to match mine and that hopefully isn't warped, stick it on my car and see if that changes anything.

I got to the junkyard, and the I only found 2 air horns that would fit mine and they were both warped. So I didn't get one. Maybe I'll just try straightening the one I have out someday.
