Anyone got a link to a good website on repairing the locks and latches inside a car door?
Anything on handles and the locking interior parts?

I got a few issues that are probably very simple but I would like to look at some info before tearing my door apart.

Also any links to door lock parts for a gen 2 camaro would be helpful.

Right now my driver door cant be locked without a big hassle getting it back unlocked.

 

Do you have electric door locks? If you do my sons car was not lockable on the drivers side. I removed the electric locks assy by drilling out the rivets and pulling the assy from the door lock. It nows locks fine, I'm not sure if I'll ever replace the electric acuator as the the doors works fine in the manual mode. Hope this helps.

No electric locks here. Acts like something after the lock. It turns with the key ok but won't unlock after it is locked. The key turns both ways but is hard to unlock.

 

Pull the interior door panel, should be four screws. Two are in the bottom of the arm rest, one is in the upper section. There should be one behind the door opener pull and that should be all it is. The panel is retained by a series of white plastic retainers on the bottom edge ams a couple if metal ones in the sides. You will need a special tool to properly remove them from the sheet metal of the door. If you don't use the special tool what happens is the fiber board backing will be damaged and the plastic retainers stay in the door instead of the interior panel. once the retainers have been released, unscrew the interior door lock **** and roll down the window, if your car has inner adjustable side mirror , on the under side is a wire bail (loop) that retains the adjuster cable. move it to the side and pull the cable assy out. if you have manual windows the handle needs to be removed, check for a screw in the center, most of the new cars have a u-clip behind the handle. Take a shoe string and loop it behind the handle and pull to the side, it should force the clipout of it's resting place. They do make another special tool the release the clip but I've never used it. A scribe with the 90 degree end works well also. Then pull the panel out to clear the inner door opener and pull upwards to release the panel. If they door hasn't been messed with there should be a plastic or paper cover over the door.

Since you dont have the electric door locks there should be a could of rods going to the lock, one is from the inner locking ****, another is from the inner door handle, another from the outer door lock. I can't remeber if the outer door handle has the a rod or it levers over on top the lock itself. Pull each rod individually and try to work the door lock, one of them may be the culprit. If neither fix the problem shoot it with BP plaster or WD-40 and try it again. Worse case disconnect all rods and retaining screws for the lock and remove and replace. Some of the manufactues used plastic retainers on the rods to hold them into the lock assy which got old and brittle and broke, look for that too.
