Default Buying a 77 chevy camaro and need advice

Thinkin about buyin this car. I test drove it to day drives nice. Odometer reads 70k not sure if it turned over.
They are asking 5500.00 I think its a good deal. (i will probly loball 4700) What do you guys and gals think? Whats the best way to make sure this one has a solid engine and transmission? How reliable have your chevys been? I need to get back and forth from my office which is like 10miles from my pad. Anyinfo would be much appreciated.

looks like a sharp car to me what are the stats on it motor, service record stuff like that? it looks to be a stock drive train from the pics i'd try for 4 maybe as far as reliability goes it's tuff to say with as car thats 34 years old.
the only thing i don't like are the wheel's but that's just me.
keep us posted.

Welcome. I see only a few things I don't like. First the price. No way. Don't take this the wrong way, I would offer him 3000 and tell him to the ghey wheels. The stripes on the hood don't match the ones on the trunk. Illusion? The shifter is beat. That could be fixed, but for 5500 I want cherry. Specially in this economy. Does the AC blow icee cold? Finally is that some type of moulding along the bottom of the door? Looking at the motor don't expect a power house, probably a 305 and well worn. Still I'd drive it with different wheels. Good luck.

Stripes don't match, but if that paint is that clean its a $4000 paint job.

I don't agree. I couldn't find a body that nice for under $4000. It a $1000 per quater to replace and another $3000 for a nice paint job. That makes a really nice body worth about $4000 to me.

Sure you can get an $800 car and drop $6000 on body and paint.

Just look really close at the quarters and see if the are replacements or just full of bondo. If they are full of bondo then its a $2000 car. If they are all steal and very well done I say $5000.

And that strip on the bottom of a door is a factory molding on the LT.

Stripes on the hood never matched the trunk, so someone did them like similar to original, and that's OK. The hood stripes follow the lines, while trunk are parallel. It's not a special option car, just AC, so I wouldn't buy it at $5700. I'd offer $4k and leave him your phone number if he says no, so he can call you when he gets tired of waiting for that price.
Mine are ghost stripes, so hard to see, but I hope they're not wrong!

Vall look close at the srtipes. The width of the rear isn't as wide as the rear part of the stripes. the gap in the middle isn't the same either, Like I said I like the paint though.

ya, the rear stripes are too close together. but thats just the deck lid, you can have that re painted. no big deal. just unbolt it and leave it at the paint shop for a couple days while they fix it. i agree the shifter and plate look pretty bad, more of a pain to replace then price. i think the wheels look terrible, but thats just mho. if you like the way it looks, runs well and the a/c works i agree 4k tops.

Yes, I saw that, but you'll notice mine are set up off factory measurements and the width of the stripes, plus spacing between stripes is also different front to back. Mine is closer up front, and wider in back; just the reverse of the one pictured, but my point wasthey don't match each other, so it's not a big deal if the stripes are unique.
I've seen all types of stripes on repaints from flame stripes, to one wide stripe, even stripes that go over the roof like a darn Ford. Most look pretty nice, even if they don't look "factory".

ya, but a little wide is better then close together. big wide tail with 2 close together stripes looks funny. looks like its the measurements for a vega or something

I don't mind the ones on the car in question. Only thing I don't care for is they stopped the stripe short of the bottom, but didn't bring the border stripe across. They should either go all the way to the trunk lid, or border the large stripe if they stop short.
