Black Interior Parts 79 Z28
#2
I've had good results using automotive dye for small parts, or plastic parts. Things that don't see much wear will hold up great! When I swapped my interior over from green to black I got new seat covers, new carpet, and then a few large parts, and just dyed the rest the smaller stuff. It has held up for over 30 yrs. now.

I have a Ok set of back seats. I say OK because with some ArmorAll they look good, but mice built a nest in the back of the top. I also have a new carpet. Make me an offer. I'm reasonable. I also have a set of NEW black sail panels that I could be talked into selling. Baby needs shoes.

About the best dye i have heard of is called sem.You can get it several places,npd,f-body wharehouse, even some local auto body supply places carry it.They have a color called landau black that matches the factory black almost perfect.

Yes, SEM is a good product. Justy be sure whatever you use is marked as applicable for plastic or vinyl, depending on which you are spraying the dye on. I used Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric Spray for changing some interior panels on my '69 Suburban recently. It worked very nicely, but I didn't try it on any plastic pieces, and I saw nothing on the can that said it was for that use. It was for vinyl, fabric, and carpet from the label instructions.

No, you don't sand the plastic, you scrub it down good with soap and water, then dry it. Then you wipe it down with a correct prep solution and let that dry. Then spray it.

Ah ok....i havnt had much luck spraying plastic but i can give it another shot. I usually get spider cracks in it and then it ends up peeling off. Maybe i didnt clean it good enough or a good enough spray. I bought some stuff specificaly for plastic from lowes and tried to use that. Maybe there is some kind of primer?
