Default Big block header questions

My 80 camaro has the 454 and i got the headers. I put them on but the pass side hits the tranny. How much clearance should it have? Also i can't seem to fit my z bar in for the clutch. Is there manual and auto headers? I'll probably customize something to make them work but just curious.

Default RE: Big block header questions

i would probably guess there is a set of headers for auto and manual trannys.when i bought the set for my big block i called summit and talked to the guy and every set of headers i was interested in would not fit the car because air ,power steering, anyway i ended up getting a cheap set of summit brand name headers and they fit without any issues, plenty of clearance all the way around.i did wrap the starter with a shield and i wrapped the tubing for the oil guage.i have a 400 turbo in mine.i know you said you had a manual but i would guess there is a different set of headers for different set-ups.just sharing my story probably doesn't help you but good luck and let us know what you find out

I want to say I have seen headers that have said they are for manual or auto transmissions somewhere. My hooker headers clear my th400 without a problem and still match up for all brackets.
