Default Beginner's luck!

So this morning a young friend of mine sat down by me in church and says, "Guess what my neighbor gave me; a 1974 Camaro!"
So after a little Q&A I decide I need to follow him home, because he thinks it's a rust bucket, and might not be worth saving. When I got to his home I take a look and the Camaro is super straight body, and original looking paint. It's got a few rust holes in the rear floor pans, and one in the driver's side, but trunk is really solid. The trunk drops are rusted through, so needs patch panels, but that's about it. Sunroof installed, and he wants it to go away. Heck, it even has mag wheels with 265/60's and 235/60's rubber that's in great shape all around.
Then he takes me in the garage and shows me all the stuff the neighbor also gave him. Two extra doors, two front fenders, brand new dash pad NIB, NIB B&M Quick Silver shifter, tons of extra interior and exterior trim.
The car is a bit odd, as it's a Type LT with a 6 cyl. automatic, but the guy also gave him a rebuilder 4 bolt main 350 too! And to top it all off, the darn six banger runs good too!
I asked him why the neighbor gave him the car and he said the guy always planned to rebuild it, and he told him years ago if he ever changed his mind He'd like to buy it. The guy said he'd never get around to it, so he just wanted it to go away. Heck, I'd have gladly started another Camaro project if somebody gave me a deal like that!

Wow, that is awesome. My 76 LT was on a tow truck headed to the junkyard when i snagged it up. Its nice that he realized he wasn't going to actually get to it, and gave it to someone who can do well by this classic and get it back to the way it should be.

Wow what a deal. Glad he had enough sense to have you look at it before he did anything. With all your knowledge Val, you probably just became his Camaro Mentor.

He's asked me before if I ever wanted to sell my Camaro, so he's been interested for awhile. He's got his grandfather's restored '69 Dodge Dart in the garage, so always thought he was more of a Mopar guy. Glad he finally got a Chevy!
I plan to assist him all I can, as he's got good basic automotive skills, but never did much bodywork, or ever did an engine rebuild. Should be fun for him!

I will point him towards this site for some inspiration!

If he does join, be sure to point him out so we don't pick on him too badly. After all, we do strive to be a kinder, gentler car forum.

I'm gonna warn him about a couple troublemakers!

Wow I'd be greatful for life if somebody gave me a free car with a bunch of additional thing, on top of that it's a CAMARO! Lucky kid, if he lets you I'd like to see pics one day. I love 74's.

Yeah, I'll get pics the next time I go over to assist. He's got parts stored everywhere that came with the Camaro. He wasn't even aware that some were duplicate parts, so he'll have a lot of things like doors and trim left over once he's done.
At first glance it looks great, and even the few rust place mentioned are minor enough to not need more than small patch panels. With some effort I think it could be done in a year, but he's got 3 small kids so it may take a bit longer with family interruptions.
