Default Authenticity of 1971 RS

Hi, I'm new here and thanks for having me, I'm trying to buy a 1971 Camaro. The one is supposed to be a RS, how do I tell if this is a genuine RS as the seller claims it is.He has sent me a photo of the VIN and build tag.Cheers.

Neither the VIN or trim tag has any RS reference to it. The only way to authenticate an RS is by the build sheet, window sticker or dealer sale paper work.
An RS can be faked, but it's not always done right or completely. It should have the urethane center nose extension (and fitting well), front round marker lights next to the grille (instead of the rectangle lights below bumper), stainless trim on front marker lights, rear tail lights, windows, roof drip, grille, and windshield edge of hood and fender tops, RS emblem on the body and steering wheel. Another big difference that a faker might not change, is the RS has hidden windshield wipers, standard model doesn't. Basically, you need to do your homework well.

As 69 suggested, only on build sheet or window sticker and dealer sale paper.
Also, should have a split front bumper about the grille.

Keep in mind all document can be faked, in fact they can be bought online and they are made to order and show up in the proper aged condition. One guy built a Convertible 1st Gen Z28 and got all the documents to prove it was an original Convertible Z28. In his thread he stated where he got the documents and even had pictures. They all looked 100% and it was less then $250. FYI GM only built one convertible Z28 tracking down which museum its in would not take long.

Today's car collectors are looking for the cars history back to the original owner. They want pictures with the original owner dating back to when the car was new. If you don't have the cars history then it is tuff to prove anything.
